ECOTIP #40: Don't flush your kitty litter! Most domesticated cats carry a parasite (Toxoplasmosis Gondii or TG) which has no effect on humans or animals living with cats, with the exception of pregnant women Unfortunately, TG is not safe for sea otters and possibly other sea life, and can survive the water treatment process. TG is making its way to the ocean in what is considered clean water, and is currently responsible for nearly 20% of all sea otter deaths today. Studies are currently being done to investigate what other effects TG may be having on the environment.
