ECOTIP #39: Switch to an environmentally friendly kitty litter. Clay (and clumping clay) cat litters are made from bentonite clay, a non- biodegradable substance that requires environment-damaging strip mining to acquire. Also, the dust in the litter contains the carcinogen silica, and often have other toxic ingredients and are processed in environmentally hazardous ways. There are several varieties of cat litter made from safe, recycled materials, but we reccomend Feline Pine because it's made from 100% recycled pine, and is 100% chemical and carcinogen free.
